Does All God-given Prophesy Come True?

Someone had a question recently that brought up an interesting question

. This person had been working on a project that was very important to him and which they felt led by God to do. They sought the Lords guidance and had many people praying for them. They acted on what they believed the Lord was telling them, but then it fell through. Time after time (nine times in all) the direction they took didnt work out and they found themselves questioning why they were getting false positives in their prayers. So, that brings up the question, if God tells you to do something, does that prophesy always come true? Well, lets look at some Biblical examples:

The Nation of Israel:

The nation of Israel is an example of a "false" positive. In Exodus God declared that He had given them the Promised Land. However, this was long before they ever set foot in it (Ex. 12:25). In fact, only two of the millions of people God spoke this promise to ever actually set foot in that Land (Num. 14:16; Deut. 19:8). The rest died in the wilderness, having failed to experience God's perfect will in their lives.

Jonah and Nineveh:

Nineveh is another example, this time of a "false" negative. God declared the people of Nineveh would be destroyed in 40 days, and yet they werent because they made the right choice and repented. So, God "relented and did not bring on them the destruction He had threatened" (Jonah 3:4,10;4:1).

These are just a couple examples and I could have added many more, but I believe this suffices to make the point. From these examples and others we can see that the future is always in flux based on people's responses to Gods declared word.

The principle at work here is that all prophecy is conditional and is based on mans response (Ezek. 33:13-16; Jer. 18:7-10).

If I tell a righteous person that they will surely live, but then they trust in their righteousness and do evil, none of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered; they will die for the evil they have done. And if I say to a wicked person, You will surely die, but they then turn away from their sin and do what is just and right if they give back what they took in pledge for a loan, return what they have stolen, follow the decrees that give life, and do no evilthat person will surely live; they will not die. None of the sins that person has committed will be remembered against them. They have done what is just and right; they will surely live. - Ezekiel 33:13-16

I highly recommend Journaling (writing down your conversations with God or visions God gives you as they happen) as the best in the areas of edification, exhortation and comfort (1 Cor. 14:3), as this builds faith, hope and love, which is the fuel we are designed to run on (1 Cor. 13:13). Journaling allows you to focus on your conversation/vision as it is happening and then examine it and confirm it after.

For decisions, I use "The Leader's Paradigm" which involves confirming a decision through six different ways which God speaks. This is what I use personally at what I teach at an online Bible college. Although this is still not a guarantee that everything will go perfectly (or at least what I think would be perfect!) this approach does appear to give me wiser decisions and better results.
