Does Your Project Manager Resume Show All Your Achievements?

As a project manager you're essentially working two jobs

. Your first job is to run a project, your second job is to contribute to the goals of the company you work for. Not only do you need to make sure a project is successful, you also need to make sure the company you work for is successful.

Does your resume show what your project success meant for the companies you've worked for?

When you're putting together a project manager resume you really should emphasise this "double success".

For example, instead of saying "I completed project X on time on budget and within scope", say something like "I saved company ABC (this is the company you work for) $1.1M dollars by completing project X on time on budget and within scope".

See how you're showing double success!

Let's look at some more examples. For every project you describe in your resume you need to think about the "double success" you achieved.

Example 1 "By successfully completing the software Integration project under budget I was able to save company ABC $230,000. This directly led to a budget surplus"

Example 2 "Company ABC announced a successful completion of the hybrid program 3 weeks ahead of the scheduled completion date, due to my extensive project management skills and resulted in positive shareholder activity."

What happens with standard resumes is they look, well, standard and that doesn't help us show all "double achievements".

As a Project Manager I know how rewarding a career in Project Management can be. I also know how hard it is too keep your resume up to date.
