It is important to make the dog know if it has made a mistake or earned a reward. Basic tricks such as sit, roll over, recall and stop can be taught using these methods. Teaching a dog tricks helps it to focus and releases pent up energy.

Harsh methods such verbal reprimand, throwing water and physical punishment should not be used. Dogs may react badly and will either develop anxiety or even become aggressive and edgy. Punishments and rewards can be given in the form of treats, toys or even affection. Removing these factors will make the dog understand its mistake. Collars and harnesses are also vital in training.

Collars such as choke collars help control the dog during walks and tighten around the dog's neck when pulled with force.

Many training centers are found which help with training your pet. Vets and pet store owners will have information on how to join and the schedules. Training centers are available for dogs as young as 12 weeks. It is compulsory that all dogs be vaccinated before entering the Centre. Training Centers help dogs to mingle amongst each other. Social interaction is important as dogs are pack animals.

Obedience training makes the dog understand the authority of its master and becomes a bonding session. It is important that an owner have a close relationship with their pet. Trust is vital factor between a dog and its master therefore using force and harsh verbal reprimanding is considered abuse by many animal rights agencies.
