Don't Sweat the Small Stuff

WOW, it sure is easy to get ahead of yourself today

. You worry about your job, your family, your bills, your life, but it doesn't have to be that way, does it? You know that you are not the only one in a worrisome situation yet you don't see others freaking out over these same things. What gives?

I have an answer. If you look at those other people you may see a couple of different things going on in their minds.

1. They take things one at a time.

If someone concentrates on a single issue then it is easier to deal with. It doesn't have to be the biggest issue, it just has to be one of the things that have to be taken care of.


2. They prioritize.

When someone has a lot of things to do they prioritize

The big things can be put at the front or the smaller issues can be worked out

When the small things are completed the "to do" list becomes shorter quicker

3. They breathe.

When a person breathes they stay calm

When breathing it gives a person time to re-evaluate the severity of the situation

When breathing, the person has time to consider their options

When breathing, stress is avoided by oxygenation.

4. They involve those who can help, and leave out those who cannot

Don't tell your boss about your problems at home. They cannot do anything for you.

Don't tell your family about your problems at work. They cannot do anything for you.

Ask advice only from those who are in a position to help you resolve your issues.

If they do not get the help they need, they go elsewhere.

When you look at things in a smaller picture, lists of items that need to be done, or bills to be paid, or homework to accomplish, then none of the things seems to unattainable. It is important to take care of yourself, too!

Take a hot bath, or a long walk, or do something to clear your mind. If you are being bothered by those who would try to rush you to completion, turn off the phone, turn on the radio, or check into a motel room for some quiet time, but find a way to remove yourself from the stress. This will help you to regroup, recuperate, and get back to dealing with things again.

And, first and foremost: Don't sweat the small stuff!!!
