Don't Call A Tow Truck During Lockout In A Car

It happens to everyone - sometimes more than once

. You have got out of your car but your keys have not. Apart from feeling a little foolish and definitely more than a little stressed, what are you going to do? You may decide to spend time attempting to get into the car yourself. Calm down and try and recall anyone else that may have a spare key for the car. If so, call them. They may be at home and available, so can bring the spare key to you - problem solved.

But if this is not possible then what next? Look around the car to check if any window is slightly open - if so, is the lock reachable? Will you be able to open it using a coat hanger? Probably not - unless you have locked your keys inside your car outside your home and have easy access to a coat hanger, However, (and somewhat strangely) these things generally occur when you are nowhere near home. If you do find yourself in this kind of situation, no need to panic or call a tow truck in despair. It is time to call a locksmith. One thing you must remember is that calling the locksmith is something that must be done as soon as possible if you have someone inside the car such as an infant. The temperature in a locked car with windows sealed shut can go up fairly rapidly and poses a risk to the child.

But which locksmith should you call? Unless you already know a reputable company or have received referrals from close friends and family, the rule of thumb is to always look for one that is certified, insured and licensed. Many locksmiths and more so those that have been around for a while will also indicate the number of years that they have been operating in the locksmith business. Even though neither of these factors necessarily provide a guarantee of good service, you have much better chances of a pleasant and professional experience with such firms than you do with those that have no such documentation.

Before employing a locksmith, however, make sure that they give you an estimate of the cost of the job. The last thing that you want is for a bad day to get significantly worse by being given a bill that is 2 or 3 times more than you were expecting. However, you must remember that an emergency locksmith is just that - an emergency; therefore they are bound to be more expensive than if you were to contract a locksmith for an ordinary and less urgent lock problem.
