Dont Loose Your Job Because Of Wireless Internet

Now that virtually everyone has access to wireless Internet

, and entire new world of social interaction has been created. In many ways, this is incredible, but theres a risk in sharing information on the Internet that could get you in trouble at work. For those who are a bit older and did not grow up with the online world, it can be difficult to navigate what the appropriate etiquette is for interaction with people in this new virtual space. And even for those who are younger and grew up with ubiquitous wireless Internet, learning whats appropriate and realizing the potential repercussions of online interactions can take time. The online world is a very public one, and learning how to converse with others in this space is important. Here are some tips how to share information and communicate with friends, acquaintances, coworkers and family in the age of wireless Internet and keep your job!

1. Stop and think before you post those embarrassing/incriminating photos online.

The ease of sharing photos is one of the wonderful things about the Internet that gets so many people online. 75-year-old grandparents who would have no other reason to surf the net get wireless Internet, email addresses and social networking accounts so that they can see photos of their grandkids and other relatives who live across the country. But while posting photos of an innocent backyard picnic or trip to the zoo can seem harmless, when you post pictures online of events or activities that people who appear in the photos many not want to be shared with the world, things become trickier. These sensitive photo subjects many include drinking underage or in excess, obvious/apparent drug use, nudity (whether purposeful or accidental) or suggestive body language, social events to which certain people werent invited, or even just plain old unflattering shots. You may think that the photos are yours to post with your wireless Internet where youd like, and if those who appear in them dont like them they can just untag them, but thats a fast way to getting people pissed at you. Next time you show up at the keg party with a camera, you might find that very few people are interested in talking to you. So stop and think before you post those photos. If you really do want to share them, consider posting them on a photo sharing website besides Facebook, and only inviting a select few people to view them. This way they stay a bit more private.

2. Never use your real name or post any self-identifying information when blogging about your job.

Actually, its best to avoid blogging about your job in general, as your boss or curious coworkers will probably be able to figure out exactly who you are after reading a few entries. But if you must, do not use your real name, the name of your company, or the names of anyone you work with. Not only are you asking to get fired, but you could be sued for defamation depending on what you say. And check to see if your contract had any kind of non-disclosure clause. This will help you avoid a world of hurt.
