Dont Sabotage The Health Of Your Skin, Understand The Basics

Do you really know enough about your skin to take care of it properly

? There's a lot more that goes into skin care than just splashing water on your face. In this article you will find the basics to proper skin care. You will learn the answers to some of the more common skin care questions other than, how do I get rid of wrinkles? If you commit to these foundational steps 1st, you will not have to deal with having wrinkles. On the other hand, if you already have wrinkled skin, going back to basics can get your skin in better shape.

WHATS YOUR SKIN TYPE?

Believe it or not, few people actually know the answer to this question. There are several factors involved that affect our skin on a daily basis; the most prominent one is the aging process itself. That being said, there are really only five basic types of skin out there and that of course, changes as time marches on. The trick is to find out where you fall within that skin type and to make a point to keep track of any changes in relation to your type as you age.

FIVE BASIC SKIN TYPES

Oily

Dry

Combination

Sensitive

Normal

Once youve found where you fall in the five basic skin types you can move on to the four step process.

FOUR-STEP PROCESS NO MATTER WHAT YOUR SKIN TYPE

Ok, so oddly enough some people cannot adhere to any kind of skin care system for whatever reason for very long. I mean, I know people that rarely wash their face before they go to bed! This is a very big no-no, by the way. Whether you are too busy or too tired there is no excuse for not washing your face. If you can brush your teeth every day, you can certainly cleanse your face. Now this four step process might seem like a chore, but I promise you its not. In fact, it really only amounts to about a five-minute routine once you learn the steps and get used to implementing them.

Step 1: Wash your Face! You should be washing your face morning and night. If youre skipping this one step, you are doing your skin a great injustice and creating a plethora of other issues that can wreck havoc on your skin as time goes on. Also, the type of skin you have will determine what kind of cleanser is safe for you to use.

Step 2: Exfoliate. There is a debate about the frequency of exfoliation with skin care experts, but they all agree that it is an import part of the process. Exfoliating is a process by which you are manually scrubbing away dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. When you are young, the skin replaces itself entirely every few weeks. However, from the age of 28 and beyond, in order to keep your skin looking lustrous, you need to speed up the process by exfoliate every other week or so to keep that youthful glow. I usually recommend doing at least one professional exfoliation once or twice a year. Find a quality over the counter exfoliation crme that is still gentle on your face and you will keep your skill glowing.

Step 3: Toning. Using a toner is another essential step in the process. If you have access to a really good toner product, it should leave your skin feeling very hydrated. The purpose of using a toner is to balance the ph levels in your skin after cleansing. Its a quick and easy step that will miss if you ever stop doing it.

Step 4: Moisturize. Whether you have dry or oily or any of the five skin types you should never skip moisturizing you skin. Having a day cream or lotion with a built in spf to protect your skin during the day is a must. The sun can be brutal, so protect it. Your night time moisturizing product should contain all the essential ingredients that go into building you skin. Our bodies repair itself while we sleep and that includes the skin. Look for ingredients like vitamin C and vitamin A. These two vitamins aid in clarifying and building collagen while you sleep.

So, how do you really know which products to buy? Well, once again, that all depends on the type of skin you have. Whatever you do, find a specialist who understands skincare or go to a dermatologist. As for which specific brand of any type of product to buy, that's an entirely up to you. Do your research. It might be that a generic brand has the exact same ingredients as a popular brand, be aware that its the amounts of an ingredient that makes the difference. You also might find that the popular brand cost more but doesnt work any better. Always read the ingredients, ask for help, and try to check if there are any online reviews about the particular product.

In my next article, I will delve into how to target specific skin issues.
