Experience with voice recognition.

I am a radiologist and have been using voice recognition programs professionally over six years. Some of the programs have been very poor, but this one is astounding. I haven't used the medical version, but purchased this one for my home. It is incredible.

I have tried to trick it with unusual words or phrases but it can cope with anything I have thrown at it. Of course, as a professional, I know how to dictate.

I think that someone who has difficulty with the program is probably dictating words one at a time. To get high accuracy one must put things in context with the program. It needs to be able to put together phrases and sentences to have a high probability of being what the individual has said. It won't be able to meet the expectations of anyone expecting it to respond to single words, one at a time. If being used one word at a time, it also will spell the word based on the highest probability rather than the appropriate spelling for the condition. For example, if the person dictating says "to" by itself, the program would probably spell it "2" or "two", however if the person dictating put it in context by saying "He went to the beach.", all in a single sentence, it would get it correct.

The person dictating must also get the punctuation in place within the appropriate time interval. If he or she were to say "He went to the beach", then add the punctuation after a couple of seconds rather than immediately, it might come out "He went to the beach period" including the punctuation as a word.

I could come up with numerous examples of perceived errors which are really not the fault of the program. I maintain that to get to error free dictation, one must practice the art of dictation. One must speak in sentences, or at least in phrases, and learn to be silent between thoughts.

Having said all this, I must also say that in order to run this program with a high degree of accuracy, you must also have a computer with enough power to run it. The computer must have a fast processor and plenty of RAM. You must also have a good microphone and have it positioned well by your mouth.

If used correctly this program is phenomenal. It will be the best money you could ever spend for software.

I get over 99% accuracy. I get accuracy which is unmatched by a transcriber. That is not boasting. You can do the same with practice.

I must say that I was a lil skeptical about this product at first. However, once I got it up and running, I was truly impressed. I have had it for 5 months now. I am currently completing my masters degree, and have to write many papers. This product has come in handy, it cuts down my study time by 65%. I would highly recommend this to anyone that hates typing like do :)

Improvement!

This product was a definite improvement over the program already in place on my computer. I have to add, however, that I bought a good quality headset/microphone (Plantronics DSP400)and that that was even more important than this software in terms of the computer being able to recognise my words. Overall, not perfect, but provides lots of shortcuts to make dictation easier and faster.

I love this product because it speeds up my ability to process documents. It is extremely helpful and useful in dictating. It makes some mistakes but they are extremely easy to correct. It has indeed increased my ability to produce work faster. I definitely will recommend this product to those who has a lot of writing because this product does speed up the process.
