Drilling Down: Hardwood Mats

With all this talk of hardwood mats and their relatives the crane mats

, the laminated mats, the rig mats, and the much loved and adored bridge mats, it only seems right that we really get down to the root of things so as to better understand and grasp the world that we live in, and the mats that make living in this world so much better. Thats right, hardwood mats, for some, might just make this place a little more enjoyable. Work (assuming you work in a profession somehow impacted by hardwood mats (like the 5 degrees of separation between you and Kevin Costner game, chances are if you really tried, you could make just about every occupation in the world somehow connect to hardwood mats or their impact on the world)) becomes a little safer, a little more efficient, and you leave a little better off thanks to hardwood mats. Without exhausting ourselves on the endless ways that hardwood mats could possibly be connected to even far reaching occupations, wed like to get back to the root of what were after here, and that is the life spring of hardwood mats. From whence do they come? We shall tell you. But first, the temptation is too great, we have to indulge ourselves with just one hardwood mat/random occupation connection. So here we go! How in the world could hardwood mats possibly impact the world of theatrical dance? Easy! Oil. End of story! Everything runs on oil these days, and oil often must be drilled for in remote, boggy, difficult to access areas. Hardwood mats help bridge unstable ground to access those petroleum wells and get the much needed oil to the city to run the trucks and machinery that built the theater, that fueled the cars that transported the patrons to the performance, that was used to manufacture the uniforms and shoes that the dance troupe wore. Even the lights overhead, in some way, were made possible thanks to petroleum, and petroleum my dear friends, is more easily accessed, pipelines transporting that oil are more easily built, and the world of theatrical dance is a little different thanks to hardwood mats. Whew! With that out of the way, lets get back to basics. In the coming installments, we are going to look at the very beginnings of hardwood mats, going as far back as the seed in the soil that started it all.
