Duck Stuffed Animals
Ducks are a familiar and well-loved animal that children are very fond of
. Whether they have seen them running around on a farm or swimming and flying in the wild, it's one of the first animals they learn to recognize. With children's inherent love for animals, ducks are just one of the species which will engage their senses. Equally, a duck stuffed animal, while filling the role of treasured companion, can also teach them all about respecting real animals and wildlife in general.
Ducks are part of the Anatidae family which also includes geese and swans. Duck actually refers to the female while the males are called drakes. There three distinct groups into which ducks are divided; surface-feeding ducks that prefer ponds, marshes, and other quiet waters (mallard, black duck, wood duck); diving ducks which are found on bays, rivers, and lakes (redhead, canvasback, scoter); fish-eating ducks which prefer open water (mergansansers). Ducks that feed on the surface of the water take flight by using their wings to go straight up while diving ducks softly beat their feet along the water's surface before they take off. When it comes to choosing just the right duck stuffed animal, there is no need to fret about which group it belongs to as the likelihood is you won't be able to tell the difference. As long as you pick a duck stuffed animal that is soft and snuggable, it will be a hit.
All domestic breeds of duck are descendants of the Mallard which makes its home in North America, Europe, and Asia. Mallards are easily recognized because of their bright green head and neck (its breast is chestnut, its back grayish brown, its tail white and there are blue patches on its wings). The migration of the Mallard duck is the longest of any of the species which begins in late summer to early winter. In March and April they generally begin their migration back to their breeding grounds. Female ducks typically will return to where they were hatched, to breed. Or, they will go close to a once used breeding site. In contrast, male ducks will never breed in the same area twice. Currently, the Mallard duck is the most common wild duck in the United States with a breeding population estimated to be up to 10 million.
If you have an interest in a Mallard duck stuffed animal instead of those that more resemble the looks of baby ducks, the internet is the place to go. Some speciality shops have a stunning 12 inch long Mallard duck stuffed animal that has been perfectly designed to match the real thing. They are made of soft plush fur and is an ideal companion for any child interested in ducks.
