Dutch Rabbit Care – How I Take Care of my Bunnies
Dutch Rabbit Care How I Take Care of my Bunnies
I brought home 2 additional members of the family a pair of lovable dutch rabbits. I was told that the ideal cage for these little creatures should have a height of 4 ft and should have a size of 18" x 18". It should be enough for them to have a space to play and a space to sleep on.
I placed this cage in a secluded room in my house to make sure that they will be safe from predators outside the house. I also have to ensure that the room will have the right temperature. They can get sick if it's too cold or warm for them.
Part of dutch rabbit care is giving them the chance to exercise daily. I would take them out of their cage each day and allow them to play on my lawn. That is also a great feeding time for them because they can graze on the grass. It is a very good precaution to make sure that you put them in a small area so that you can easily catch them as they are very fast creatures.
I am so vigilant of their diet because I want to prevent health problems that may develop in them in the future. I feed them with grass and herbs. I also bought commercial pellets and timothy hay. Their diet should not be without hay because it helps in keeping their teeth at their proper length.
Aside from the foods I've mentioned, I also feed them alternately with broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, carrots, and apples. To make sure that their digestive system will be healthy, I give them fresh water everyday. If we won't be careful about what they take in, they make suffer from diarrhea.
I do believe that the owner's touch can tame these little creatures. I would cradle them regularly so that they will be attached to me. I avoid picking them up by their eyes because that can hurt them. Just like dogs, they also long for their owner's love. That in fact could be the best training tool that can be used on them.
