Dynamics Gp As Corporate Erp Application In Nationwide Organization

across the United States, Canada and internationally especially in Spanish speaking South America. Number of installations means availability of consulting help as well as limited dependency from one particular consultant and her or his unique skills. In this small publication we would like to share some recommendations in Dynamics GP deployment and data conversion based on our consulting practice:

1.Licensing per installation. Here you need to be familiar with details. It is common practice to have several legal entities in one group and have the same accounting package to do the job for all of them. Assuming that you are deploying GP on single server in your organization then you can have unlimited number of companies. Each company is separate database on Microsoft SQL Server. The same user can have access to multiple companies if this is what you need to have as well. You also can have unlimited number of users but the number of user licenses restricts the number of user currently logged and working with the application

2.Application Server. When you have multiple offices across the USA and internationally and taking into consideration licensing it is recommended to expose client interface via such technologies as Microsoft Terminal Server, Citrix or competing with these two

3.Criteria in finding consulting firm. Of course it is always a good idea to find consultant next door to your office. However there are additional considerations especially industry expertise, successful customization, reporting and integration projects. There might be a strategy to do initial implementation with local consulting firm and plan for phase two with nationwide consulting organization where software developing is expected

4.Some words about data conversion. This section is not restricted to Dynamics GP. Data migration scope should be modest and if possible avoid historical data import. Better idea is to keep your old accounting for possible future requests and audits. If you follow this advice you should be able to save big money on technical consulting

5.Openness to Customizations. There are traditional tools such as Great Plains Dexterity currently known as Microsoft Dexterity as well as new tools such as eConnect and Visual Studio Tools. Light weight modifications could be done in Modifier module with VBA event driven scripting. Before you plan the customization we recommend you to review existing ISV modules

6.Integration with external application or database. Integration Manager could cover most of the needs, including scheduled data import in eCommerce and EDI scenarios. IM is open to be modified in VBA scripts. If you are Microsoft Visual Studio programmer with C++, C# or VB expertise you can also look at eConnect SDK where code samples are available in these programming languages

7.Exporting data to Excel. Yes, this is right! In GP Smartlist you can export everything to Excel. Not everything actually as there are some restrictions on joining tables

8.International versions. First of all expectations should be set to the point that Dexterity or the architecture of this Corporate ERP doesnt support Unicode. There might be work around in making Great Plains support Chinese hieroglyphs by deploying such products as NJ Star
