Ear surgery can be used to correct and enhance an individual's ears

The results may be less dramatic as an adult, but it will certainly make a difference.

The ear surgery itself entails the doctor placing an incision directly in the crease where the ear meets the side of the head. Working from this cut, the surgeon will be able to trim cartilage away and remove any skin they deem necessary. At this time, the doctor has a number of options to work with. They can reduce the size, change the shape, and even make slight adjustments to the positioning of the ear. When finished, the surgeon will secure the cartilage back into place with stitches and the patient will be free to go. The procedure generally takes around two hours to complete. Full recovery can take about a month.

This form of ear surgery only scratches the surface when it comes to outlining the possibilities available with an experienced surgeon. Children born with microtia or other serious disfigurements can also find benefit in visiting a surgeon. While many outer ear problems have little to no effect on hearing, they can burden an individual with a lifetime of teasing, which may be just as bad.
