Earache - Causes & Treatment
Earache is very common medical problem for both children and adults
. Earache can also be caused by pain and inflammation of the outer portion of the ear (the pinna). Ear pain in children is often caused by a build-up of fluid and pressure behind the eardrum, in the area called the middle ear.
There are a few possible causes for otitis media, or middle ear infection. Usually this type of ear infection is a product of a cold or upper respiratory infection. These types of illnesses cause the membranes in the nose to swell.
Aches and pains associated with earaches are due to a combination of fluid and inflammation lodged within the middle ear that fails to drain. Such obstruction applies pressure to the eardrum. Within the fluid, a bacterium propagates and develops.
Earache can be an indication of obstruction of the ear canal with a foreign object or earwax. It also may also indicate a perforated or broken eardrum, because of a blow to the head, infection in the inner ear, suction applied to the ear or the insertion of a foreign object into the ear.
Here are some natural treatments for earache:
Take a hand towel, soak in warm water for a few minutes, wring out the excess water and place against the affected ear. The heat will give a soothing feeling that can help to ease the pain. When the towel goes cold, repeat the steps again.
Garlic oil is also a good cure for earaches, as it helps to reduce inflammation and swelling in the ear canal that typically induces earaches. Simply put a few drops of garlic oil into the ear canal; the oil will be absorbed into the skin and tissue inside and soothe the irritation and pain.
Peel 2 cloves of garlic and mix them with two teaspoons of mustard oil. Heat the mixture until the garlic turns black and then turn the heat off. Strain and cool until lukewarm. Apply 2 to 4 drops into the ear using a cotton swab. This is said to help alleviate ear pain.
Heat up some olive oil in a microwave for 30 seconds then apply it to the ear that hurts.
For gripping ear pain just put some drops of warm onion juice and your pain will just vanish away in a moment. This is another good Home Remedy for Earache.
You can also make up an oil that contains tea tree, lavender and chamomile. You then massage this on the outer part of your ear or the oil can be dipped on a piece of cotton and then place this into your ear. Be sure to not push it in too far.
Wash ear canal with fresh hydrogen peroxide to remove cerumen (ear wax) and dry carefully.
Applying heat to the ear, which may help relieve the earache.
Place the hot towel against the affected ear. The towel should be covering the whole ear and pressed against it. Lying down with the towel on the affected ear also works.
