Easy Guide To Filling Your Cremation Jewelry

If you're concerned about filling your cremation jewelry

, we offer the following simple instructions to make the task easier. You can fill the jewelry yourself, at home, with just a few simple items at hand.

First, gather your materials. You'll need the urn pendant and the keepsake you want to store in your cremation jewelry, along with a small funnel, a tiny screwdriver (for a threaded-screw opening) and some non-water soluble glue. Check the box your cremation jewelry came in to see if any of these supplies was included with your purchase; if not, you can improvise with items you probably have around your house.

Although cremation jewelry was designed to hold a small amount of cremated remains, you can also choose another keepsake, such as a clipping of your loved one's hair, a pinch of funeral flowers that have been dried and pulverized, or a few grains of earth from the area surrounding your loved one's grave.

Next, examine your ash pendant to see what type of opening it has. Look on the back and the bottom of the keepsake pendant for a simple, tiny screw that lies flush with the pendant. If you see a screw, use the screwdriver to remove it. This is how you will gain access to the cremations jewelry's inner chamber.

If you don't see a threaded screw opening, look for the bale at the top of the urn pendant and twist it counter clockwise with your fingers. Handle the bale gently to avoid damaging the threads. Remove the bale, and you can begin to fill the chamber.

Filling Cremation Jewelry's Inner Chamber When you have removed the threaded screw or bale opening from your cremation jewelry, you can proceed to fill the inner chamber. The best way to do this is to use a funnel, but if you don't have one on hand, you can manufacture a funnel by cutting of a pie (or 270 degrees of a circle) from paper. Fold the circle so the two open edges overlap, creating a small opening at the base of the funnel.

Use a flat surface for your work area, and cover it with newspaper or plastic sheeting. Insert the funnel's stem into the ash pendant's opening, and place your keepsake in the mouth of the funnel. You may find it necessary to use a toothpick or straightened paper clip to guide the keepsake through the neck of the funnel and into the cremation jewelry's chamber.

Secure the Opening on Your Cremation Jewelry The threaded bale or threaded screw opening on your cremation jewelry is designed for security, but you can gain additional peace of mind by sealing the opening with non-water soluble glue. (If no glue was included with your cremation jewelry purchase, you can use Krazy Glue or any other permanent glue.) Simply apply a few drops of glue to the threads of the keepsake pendant and then replace the bale or threaded screw.
