It shouldn't come as a surprise that a good website with proper optimization should be at the forefront of your marketing efforts. The trouble is, not many people know how to make that a reality. Luckily, it isn't as hard as it seems....
1.Write Something worth Reading
It might sound like the simplest thing in the world, but this is where a lot of people fail. The plain and simple truth of having a website that aids rather than detracts from your marketing effort is this: If it's boring, cluttered, or irrelevant, no one will bother to read it. If you yourself aren't a writer, hire one! They come cheap, and you'll have made the Google gods happy, to say nothing of your customers.
2. What Your Website Title Says About Your Business
Just like a library, the first thing that people see when looking at search results is the title of your site. If your site's title is a drab, nondescript blip on the radar, don't expect a large readership (and if you don't have that, you can kiss a customer base goodbye!). It might spur you to crafting an ber-title by learning that it isn't always the top-ranked site in the SERPS that get the clicks! If a site is #1, but the title is horrible, while the #5 site on the results page has a title that jumps out at you like some sort of digital kangaroo, who do you think is getting the traffic?
3. Websites Have Treasure Maps, Too!
Ok.... you're not going to find a treasure chest, but a sitemap is one of the best things you can have. When a person searches for a site, Google's sophisticated algorithms & crawler-bots fetch sites by relevance... and if you have a clear, concise roadmap for your site, your search ranking will reflect that.
4. URLs Are Important
Plain and simple: Aged, keyword-specific domains rank (as a general rule) better than more general, "fly-by-night" counterparts. Keep those in mind for future domain shopping trips.
