Eating Your Heart Out
While rest and exercise are two major keys in keeping our hearts healthy
, they are not enough if not combined with proper diet. Now there are numerous food groups out there that can probably be considered as heart food but what I have included in my list are the ones on the top five. Make sure you get enough of them if you don't want your heart to be broken literally.
First on my list is the apple fruit. Apples contain phytonutrients that prevents bad cholesterol to form in the heart's arteries. Drinking the juice instead of eating the whole fruit boosts the effect of these phytonutrients according to researchers. This facts surely confirms that apples are indeed very nutritious fruits.
Whether fruit or a vegetable, tomatoes are found to be very good for the heart. This red and round vegetable-fruit-whatever-you-call-it is a rich source of Lycopene. Lycopene is actually the one that gives color to tomatoes. It also acts as an agent in preventing the regeneration of breast cancer cells. Aside from that, Lycopene can also reverse the damage caused by free radicals in the human body.
You probably eat oatmeal at breakfast but do you know what makes oats okay for the heart? It is Beta-glucan my friend. Beta-glucan is considered the immune system activator. It also aids in the rapid healing of wounds, the lowering of bad cholesterol or LDL and the prevention of cancer and heart attacks.
If you love wine, you should be happy. That's red wine to be exact. Red wine is rich in flavonoid and resveratrol. These two work hand in hand in increasing the production of HDL or good cholesterol and preventing blood clots in your arteries. Too much alcohol consumption though has been found to increase the risk for cancer so it would be good if you only drink red wine once in a while.
Salmon, tuna, sardines. These are the kind of seafood you would want to see on your table if you want to have a seafood diet. They are rich in omega-3, an unsaturated fatty acid that contributes in the health of the brain. Omega-3 can also prevent infection, cancer and cardiovascular disorders.
The heart is the wellspring of your being according to one saying. Friend, try to keep it healthy at all cost through regular exercise and proper diet if you want to see good days. You might regret it in the end if you don't.
