Ecco were founded in 1963 in Denmark by Birte and Karl Toosbuy and after over forty years they are still a family owned business. In the beginning Ecco was a single factory building but thanks to the determination and ambition of the Toosbuy family it soon began to grown and nowadays Ecco are one of the leading manufacturers of footwear in Europe.

Ecco are always evolving and using their vast knowledge of the human foot to create innovative technologies which they combine with bestselling styles to create shoes that support and protect the feet.

After 20 years of research showed that although the technologies in trainers are becoming more advanced the rate of injury has not reduced as you would expect. Ecco recognise that the foot has taken millions of years to evolve so that it works and moves perfectly whenever we take a step. The over cushioning and over stabilising features which are present on so many trainers can, rather than helping the feet, can actually have a detrimental affect on them as they hinder the feet from moving naturally so they cannot react to changes in terrain. What Ecco have produced is the Ecco Biom range which includes trainers that have been stripped of all unnecessary features and only includes what the feet actually need.

The new Ecco Biom range, which includes Ecco Biom B trainers for running and Ecco Biom Walk Trainers for walking, has been produced after a collaboration between Ecco and the leading figures in the biomechanics field. During ten years of research Ecco studied how the feet move during running and walking when barefoot and found that the knock on affects were positive for the whole body, they used their findings to create Ecco Biom trainers which has been specifically designed to support the foot as it moves without prohibiting it.

The Ecco Biom Walk Trainer has been designed for walking, whether as a casual, leisure activity or a serious form of exercise. Ecco Biom Walk Trainers are lightweight to which prevents any strain on the legs and reduces foot and leg fatigue while the low profile sole gives the wearer a natural sensation when walking and offers more contact with the ground.

The biomechanical sole construction in Ecco Biom Walk supports the wearer's preferred walking style and the symmetric heel outsole gives a smooth and natural gait. There is also an anatomical shank to stabilise each step without obstructing the foot's freedom to move.

The Ecco Biom B Trainers have the same features as the Ecco Biom Walk Trainers but they also include anatomically placed flex grooves on the sole so that the feet can land naturally while they also give a better push off. Both the Ecco Biom B and the Ecco Biom Walk are available in yak leather which gives a better fit than standard leather. It is also more durable and gives greater breathability making it perfect for running and walking trainers.

Ecco have always believed that the "foot comes first" and this is clear to see in the Ecco Biom B and Ecco Biom Walk Trainers, however the great styles and colours mean that they also look as good as they feel.
