Ed Hardy T-shirts: Body Art For Clothes

Don Ed Hardy is an American tattoo artist who began studying under Sailor Jerry Collins

. In 1973 Collins brought Hardy along with him to Japan where he studied under the great, classical tattoo artist, Horihide. While he focuses on an American style of tattoo work he is known for adding Japanese aesthetics and techniques into his work. His great success in the tattoo world ultimately led Christian Audigier to begin Ed Hardy T-Shirts.

Audigier a French designer and entrepreneur was captivated by this man's works and met with him to discuss a possible business venture. In 2004, Hardy agreed to grant Audigier license to use his works and Ed Hardy T-Shirts was born. This clothing line was essentially an overnight success, particularly with celebrities. Ed Hardy Tee Shirts are popular across the celebrity board; from Madonna to Snoop Dogg and Britney Spears to Sylvester Stallone.

Why have Ed Hardy T-Shirts become so popular among the rich and famous? There are two immediate reasons that come to mind. First of all, the idea of clothing designs all coming from tattoos are in and of itself, a great idea. This is taking unique artwork and placing it on great, fashionable clothing. It is also fun for those uninterested or afraid of tattoos to have a piece of the culture without compromising their bodies. The second reason is that Audigier networks as hard as anybody in the industry. He goes out of his way to give his clothing to celebrities and have them wear it. By doing so he is making a marketing campaign while spending little to no money. Just think of all the candid celebrity photos taken by the paparazzi and how often an Ed Hardy T-Shirt can slip into the mix. Thus, the methods of Audigier make perfect sense.

The entire idea, from the shirts themselves, to the marketing is all very unique and who doesn't want unique clothing? The designs are made by "The god father of the modern tattoo" so that should be enough to keep people interested. But when that is coupled with fashion staple Audigier, who's other lines include Von Dutch and Diesel, the magnitude of this clothing line begins to reveal itself.

While each person may differ on why he or she likes this clothing you can bet that all of these things will keep this young and already established company making exciting clothes for years to come.
