Effects Of Social Networking Sites On Youth Of Today

A social network is a social structure made up of a set of actors (such as individuals

or organizations) and the dyadic ties between these actors, as defined by Wikipedia.The youth of today had their eyes opened at social-networking sites at a very young age. These sites are like storms which lead them to nothing less than a revolution and because of this, many issues have been circulating around especially the concerned parents of this country. Many are asking what the real effects of this media to the young generation. It seems that there are a lot of good effects of this activity to the youth but are we really aware of all the effects of being involved in these?

We can all agree that the top two social-networking sites are Facebook and Twitter. They both have proved to the world how efficient they are. Bridging relationships through the internet and making easier and faster communication possible because of the chats and sending of messages. It has also served as ears to the youth where they can say whatever they want and feel at the moment. Sharing moments through photos is another feature of this activity. But we all should be aware that there are more things happening beyond what we can see with our naked eyes. Criminals have also become active in these sites and their targets are every user that they think is weak enough to fall for their plans. What they are doing is befriending a user, getting his address, phone number, etc. Befriending him and after gaining his trust, taking advantage of his weakness. Robbing or even killing him so that they can get what they want, leaving the poor user who just wants to have a social life deprived and ruined.

Another issue is that people are losing their privacy space. Unlike the previous generations, people today are fonder of showing their activities to the public. Every detail about every little thing that they do, they post it. No matter how private it is. People today should always know their limits and always put in their mind about good moral. If you don't want to be judged through these sites then stop giving other people the right or the idea of judging you. Stop posting things that are way too personal in which some stranger who can read it would have a different idea of what you are trying to say or express.

What we are trying to say is that, yes social-networking sites are fun, lovely and pleasurable but on the other hand, it also has a lot of bad effects leading us to dangerous things. All of us should be careful in posting personal things about us, especially in our status updates, wall posts and tweets and also in accepting friend requests or follow requests from strangers. We will never what their real intentions are and what they are planning to do with your neighbor, your friend, or even you. Hence, whatever you do, always be careful because you don't know who is watching you.
