Emend drug helps in reducing the substances that cause uneven feeling of stomach which makes the person to vomit. This medication is used along with the combination of other medication for treating the symptoms of nausea and vomiting which is caused by the surgery and cancer chemotherapy. This medication does not treat the nausea disorder and vomit that has already occurred.

How should I take this medication?

Emend medication should be used as per the dosage and the frequency suggested by the doctor. Do not skip the medication, make a regular timing for taking this medicine and if you forget to take this medication, take it immediately if there is time for your regular schedule. This medication can be taken with food or without food. Patient who take this medication before surgery should consult the doctor for instructions and restriction on food or beverages. Generally this medication is taken 1 hour before treating with chemotherapy or 3 hours before a surgery. The patient may also need to adjust the dosage for a while doing chemotherapy treatment.As this medicine is used to treat multiple disorders, do not use it without consulting your doctor first. The patient should go for regular check ups in order to see whether or not the medication is performing well.

What are the possible side effects of using this drug?

Emend may show side effects like nausea problem, feel like vomiting, sensation of burning in the heart, stomach cramp or pain, diarrhea or constipation problem, decrease of appetite, hiccups, loss of hair, head pain, dizzy feeling, tiredness, mild formation of skin rashes and sleeping disorder. Emend medication may also induce excessive sweating, rise of body temperature, thirsty, dryness of skin fever, cold, body pain, formation of sores in the mouth and in the throat. This medication may also cause allergic reaction such as like hives, breathlessness, swelling on face, lips, tongue, and throat. It may make the mouth go dry, induce drowsiness and light headedness.

What precautions do I need to follow while using Emend?

The patient should not use Emend nausea medication if you are allergic to it. The patient should consult the doctor before using this medication and should do check up to see whether or not you are allergic to this medication. Do not combine this medication along with other medication such as cisapride and pimozide for using of this medication with Emend medication can be a life threatening to the person. People suffering from liver disorder should not use Emend drug without the doctor's advice as they might need a dosage adjustment. Make sure you also let your doctor know if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or a lactating mother as it is not known whether or not it harm the fetes in the womb or cause harm to the nursing child.
