Emigrating To Australia: How To Ensure Your Possessions Go With You

With the economic forecast looking bleak here in the UK it may be time to consider

emigrating to a different country with an economy which has weathered the economic storm and still finds itself in good straits.

One such country you might consider emigrating to, should you be granted a visa, is Australia. With guaranteed good weather throughout the summer and unemployment rates at a much lower rate than over here in the UK, the time could not be better. If you have the skills that they want then they may happily grant you a visa and you can start to consider a move to the other side of the planet.

Such a move could be a logistical nightmare as there are so many keepsakes and curios which we collect over the years and there are so many items that have been in the family for too long for them to be sold or given away. Such moments can be heart wrenching and you will have to decide what you can realistically take with you. You must prioritise those things which you cannot bear to lose and those which can be replaced when you get to your new house in the Southern Hemisphere.

If you cannot bear to part with any of your possessions there are alternatives for instance, you could have them shipped over. There are specialist companies which deal with such moves and will help you in every way possible as you get ready to move all your possessions the 10,000+ miles it is to Australia.

There are certain drawbacks to such companies as they can only send items in a container by ship, which can take 2-4 months to arrive on the other end. This essentially forces you to make the decision of whether to pack up early and get all your stuff sent so that it will arrive at the same time as you do, or to do it in the reverse manner and send it as you leave and wait the 2-4 months it will take to arrive at the other end. This would seem to be a matter of convenience or necessity depending upon your situation and as such you must make your decision based on what you will do during your final months in the country.

Moving to another country is a big and exciting step and while it will be difficult as you are settling down, once you have settled in you will be able to feel right at home with all your worldly possessions on the other side of the world.
