When you're cleaning a stain always work from the outside-in of it, so not to spread it wider.

Before you apply a stain removing solution or detergent to the carpet, sofa, or anything else, always try it on an inconspicuous area of the furnishing, first.

Clean the kitchen appliances. They must be spotless.

Clean the windows in the property. If you leave them dirty your landlord might decide that you haven't cleaned anything. Tenancy cleaning specialists recommend that you use a solution of one cup rubbing alcohol and one part white vinegar for this purpose.

If there are any bad odours in the property, ventilate and deodorise it. Don't use commercial deodorisers or aerosols, as they only mix with the evil smell. You can replace them with a mixture of baking soda and potpourri, or lemons cut in halves. These natural products absorb all stenches.

If there is mould in the property, use a mixture of vinegar, salt and eucalyptus essential oil to remove it. Don't use bleach, or other strong detergents, as they are chlorine-based and will make the place smell bad. Moreover, in most cases the mouldy surface becomes yellow from the chlorine.
