End Of The World Prophecies - Are They Accurate?

Ever since the beginning of time man has been anticipating the end of time

. There have always been so called prophets that have predicted the future events of the world. Some organization still support the idea of end of the world prophecies, not only do they still believe that the world will end some day but some of them even attempt to put a date on it.

Predicting the end of the world is not new. End of the world prophecies have been attempting to determine the end of the world since before the birth of Christ. Most of the prophecies pertain to the time that the prophets live in; they all tend to be convinced that the end of the world will come during their lifetime. Many of these prophets use the bible as their supporting evidence.

Both the Old Testament and the New Testament provide predictions of the future and events to come. Both of these books discuss these prophecies in vague fashion. There is a lot of room for interpretation and speculation. It is this speculation that causes reoccurring prophecies regarding the end of the world.

Many of the end of the world prophecies involve the millennium, they center on the idea that a new millennium and when it will begin. The question of the beginning millennium exists because the calendar of religious prophecy was not based on the Gregorian calendar that we use now. Determining how to calibrate the calendar of religious times with the current calendar creates some controversy.

There have been attempts at pointing to a particular date as the beginning of the new millennium. These have been uncertain because of the way that time has been recorded since biblical days. There was a great belief that the beginning of the millennium would be Jan 1st 2000. Others disagreed and argued that the first millennium started on year 1 not year 0. Consequently, this group of end of the world prophecies pointed to the year 2001, not the year 2000.

Some end of the world prophecies centered on the 2000 birthday of Christ. There is also question as to when exactly this was. Some theologians and scholars believe that Christ was born somewhere between 4 and 7 BCE (before Common Era) also known as BC (before Christ). If indeed Christ was born in 7 BC before Christ then the millennium of Christ's birth was 1997. Obviously this end of the world prophecy did not hold fruition either.

These prophecies also have great speculation centered on them regarding what will happen. There is some opinion that it will mark the return of Christ. Others feel that it will be the beginning of the period mentioned in Revelations, referred to as the Armageddon.

This also creates controversy, because there is question by some groups that we have already entered the period of Armageddon and that the anti-Christ is already on the earth. It is obvious to see where all the confusion is started and why there is so much speculation pertaining to the end of the world and what will occur.

End of the world prophecies have always existed and they have seen the date of prophetic destruction come and go. As long as man exists there will most likely bend of the world prophecies that will predict the events and the signs of the end of time. There is some current prophecy that says that the end of the world will occur on December 21, 2012. As has always been the case we will have to just wait and see.
