Engage An Executive Coach To Improve The Performance Of Your Employees

Who is an executive coach and is there a difference between a coach and a mentor

? A lot of times we hear the two terms used synonymously but they do not mean the same thing?

It is appreciated that the professional is still a human, and that it is a well known tendency of mankind to be oblivious to the less than ideal traits we may possess. Even when it comes to the good qualities we possess we may also not be aware of them. This may hinder our potential in the workplace, and also in life. This is the sole aim of the executive coach.

Therefore, these are usually people who have excelled in their professions to become consultants and then coaches. There is a difference between a coach and a mentor. A mentor has a 'be like me' strategy and may be the choice of the executive while the coach is recommended by a third party and has a 'be the best you can be' strategy.

There is a difference between a coach and a mentor. A mentor focuses on the totality of the person, the individual. The life coach focuses on the attributes that the professional is trying to strengthen or bring out.

It is therefore very important to be able to identify a person who can step up and fill the roles of the outgoing executive. The coach would therefore be someone who is perceptive, discerning, and knows what he or she is looking for. In this way they can quickly pin point qualities in a person they are coaching, and direct the person's energies in improving these attributes.

This person is identified, based on the qualities and potential he or she already possess. The coach then formulates a program that when implemented will result in the person exhibiting these qualities and becoming a good leader. As time passes, these qualities and ways of doing things become a habit, a part of the professional.

Gender may or may not play a role in the quality of a coach. Women are said to be more emotional than men while men are said to be more logical than women. The truth is both are able to be both emotional and logical, the variance is in the degrees of exhibiting both. However, it would seem that an easy solution would be to have a female coach for male executives and a male coach for female executives. The issues this would target would be the glass ceiling for women, and how to thrive in a male dominated environment and for men how to acknowledge and accept female colleagues and possibly superiors and to de-sexualize the whole issue.

The excellent executive coach is the one who will properly start a professional, or any other business person on a journey of self discovery and empowerment, to their eventual success. A good coach should help you live up to your potential.
