Engineering Scholarships: Options For Funding School
Engineering is a fast growing and attractive field of study
. One of the major advantages of engineering is that students can generally get a job immediately after completion of their degree. However, the cost for the textbooks and four year of education acts can be intimidating. Luckily, many scholarships are available for both men and women giving them the opportunity to pursue their studies in the chosen field of engineering
In addition to specific scholarships, remember to apply for national scholarships, company scholarships, minority scholarships and scholarships for your specific background. National scholarships are available to students enrolled in an accredited college. Check the local area you live in for scholarship awards offered by philanthropists and companies wishing to give back to those in their city.
There are certain scholarships specific for those applying to engineering program. The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) is the largest sponsor of scholarships. This money is given to both graduate and undergraduate students. SAE offers scholarships to high school seniors, college freshman as well as every year of undergrad school, masters level programs and PhD students. Another engineering scholarships is the Alwin B Newton Scholarship fund. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers Foundations offers scholarships to undergraduate members who want to major in mechanical engineering. There are 300 students each year that are given the Barry Goldwater scholarships.
Various scholarships are dedicated specifically to women. National society for profession engineers (NSPE) offers two dedicated scholarship for women. One is a scholarship for undergraduate women engineers entering junior year and the other one is Virginia D. Henry Memorial Scholarship for women who entre engineering colleges from community colleges.
There are a number of engineering scholarships to minority and black students. National Society of Black Engineers and National Action Council on Minorities in Engineering are options to consider.
Most foundations and organizations require student to submit their application through their respective colleges or schools. Student may be required to pass a test or fulfill certain requirement associated with the scholarships. The essay and recommendations are important and noting your community service activities is critical.
