Equal Opportunities: The Right Of An Employee
Equal Opportunities is a term broadly used for explaining the rights of any citizen
to obtain equivalent chances in the case of employment without any discrimination of age, religion, ethnicity, origin, gender, or any physical or mental disability. Few factors that can be taken into consideration while selecting an applicant are the qualification, capability, experience and performance of the applicant.
It is illegal for any organization to discriminate an applicant on invalid terms. The organizations that are recruiting staff do not understand that if they give all the applicants equal opportunities , the chances of them finding the perfect applicant or person for the job increases.
Any workplace or association is a gathering of individuals having different personality, attitude, customs, insight as well as gender. In the past, individuals were subjected to bias due to these differences. But over the years, a lot has changed. The main change that has come into the workplace is that women now have an equal opportunity, as compared to their male counterparts. People having disabilities are also being offered opportunities in the workplace, depending upon their abilities.
Though times have changed some organization still discriminate in selecting their employees. This discrimination is generally done in two ways i.e. direct discrimination and indirect discrimination.
Direct Discrimination:
Any discrimination that is done by being more favorable to one individual and less to another, on the basis of age, sex, race or other discriminating factors, under the same provided circumstances is known as direct discrimination. Cases of direct discrimination are pretty straightforward.
Indirect Discrimination:
This form of discrimination generally takes place when, a company or organization issues a certain policy or work that appears to be totally neutral at first. But when a closer look is taken into it, it reveals that the policy or work is actually more focused on a particular group that has a certain physical or mental advantage as compared to the other groups.
Every employee working in any organization has a certain set of rights in the workplace as well as responsibilities towards the workplace. If an Employee keeps these rights in their mind while following their responsibilities, it will help them in fighting against any sort of discrimination in the workplace.
