ESL stands for "English as a Second Language"

, and ESL jobs are placements across foreign countries where it is possible to teach English as a second language. This remarkable initiative spans the globe, branching out to teach English at numerous countries where English isn't the first language. From anywhere as close as France to as far away as China there are endless ESL jobs you can apply for and many positions to fill.

The option to apply for a position on one of these ESL programmes is a great way to get a wonderful experience on your CV and although it is a language teaching programme it is not as exclusive as you may think. Ideally on most positions you should have a Bachelor's degree and two years teaching under your belt, however firstly this is not always essential and secondly it does not necessarily have to be experience in teaching language.

However it is becoming easier and easier to get these language teaching qualifications as they are more and more available, TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) courses are available up and down the country in many learning centres at varying degrees . And the more qualified obviously the more able you are to successfully apply.

When teaching abroad as you will get paid there is always the chance to try and save money from your salary and living allowances, the success on saving and making profit however varies. In some countries it is possible to save part of your salary and take home and still obtain good living conditions. However most placements the pay is designed only for you to live well and healthily in the country you are in, but it is not the money that makes ESL jobs most attractive, it's the wealth of experience that you will gain and the very attractive addition to your CV, not to mention the fun to be had abroad.

Not only will you be gaining the experience in teaching others English abroad, but you will also gain on the flipside the option to learn the native language for yourself or at least improve upon previous knowledge of the language which again improves the enrichment you gain from the programme.

Of course you will not be expected to jump into a country and teach English and figure it all out for yourself, you will at every step of the way be provided with the help of your ESL programme with advisors and assistance at every point of your tenure abroad.
