Esp To Become A Legal Requirement
ESP Electronic Stability Program has become a very popular safety feature in modern cars
. We all want and like these new features on our cars but have we ever thought what they actually do? Well, here is some information on ESP, what is does and why it is going to become a legal requirement on all new cars produced after 2014.
The Electronic Stability Program within used cars in Leicester uses intelligent sensors to check 25 times per second whether the driver's steering input matches the vehicle's actual direction of travel. If the system detects irregularities and identifies that the vehicle is likely to become unstable, the ESP system, intervenes by reducing the engine torque in order to restore stability. If that is not sufficient, then it additionally applies the brakes for individual wheels. ESP also incorporates the functions of the antilock braking system (ABS) as well as traction control.
Bosch developed ESP in 1995; it was the first company in the world to start series production of an ESP system. By 2010, 41% of all cars and light commercial vehicles weighing less than six metric tons that rolled off car production lines were equipped with the system. And some 63% of all cars and commercial vehicles manufactured in Europe had ESP.
Dr. Werner Struth the president of the Bosch Chassis Systems Control division is a firm believer that their ESP system has prevented many accidents and saves hundreds of lives. He said, "ESP can prevent up to 80% of all skidding accidents. It is the most important vehicle safety system after the seat belt.
Safety in cars has seen a rise in importance over the last few years. New laws have been entered such the age and height needs for safety seats when driving in cars and also with police enforcing the use of seat belts. I have seen in the past people being pulled over for disobeying this rule and they do take it all very seriously. Now with the enforcement of not using mobile phones when driving, it is considered one of the biggest driving no nos. Many people are still seen doing this but it has been dramatically reduced since the enforcement came in with people who disobey this receiving hefty fines.
I agree that any proven safety feature should be made available to all cars, no matter how big, small or expensive a car may be. Passenger s and drivers should be face with lesser survival rates just because they chose a cheaper car!
