Essay On Margarine And Fake Butter

Margarine is healthy

Margarine is healthy. We have been told this story a million times and it is now engraved into our brains. It is considered a fact. But unfortunately this is not true. Margarine is promoted as a healthy alternative to butter because it comes from vegetable oils. While it is indeed of plant origins, what is omitted as a piece of information by marketing campaigns is the industrial procedure these originally liquid vegetable oils go through in order to become solid butter - like margarine. A process called artificial hydrogenation is used and it involves the use of dangerous chemicals and high temperatures. Part of the toxic chemical agents used to facilitate the process cannot be removed from the final product and are therefore included in the margarine we consume as "healthy". It is the process margarine goes through that makes it extremely unhealthy.

Butter is a natural saturated type of fat that is solid at room temperature. So, the result of subjecting natural vegetable oils to artificial hydrogenation is a solid and spreadable product that looks like butter (it is solid) but is not of animal origin. This new product is the well - known margarine. You probably believe that this is a healthy option due to the plant origin but it is not like that at all. Artificial hydrogenation is a very aggressive process. It requires the use of toxic chemical agents to be used along with high temperatures and pressure in order to get the final product. Margarine and fake butter types of products are toxic and cause significant inflammatory reactions in the human body.

When margarine substituted traditional butter and lard, a massive increase in heart attacks was recorded in only a few years. In 1930, butter and lard were the main fats used in the kitchen and less than 3,000 heart attacks per year were recorded in the USA. In 1950, when margarine and artificial oils had substituted traditional fats, USA hit the astonishing record of 500,000 deaths due to myocardial infractions. Obesity is also another major problem in most part of the world today and margarine has its own share of responsibility here. It is proven that margarine deregulates human metabolism, activates fat storing mechanisms and turns on fat producing genes.

Margarine is a heavily processed and refined product that can cause great problems in the human body. It is promoted as a super healthy option but consumers are misled a great deal here. The procedures used to convert vegetable oils to margarine, are silently ignored and only the vegetable origin of the product is highlighted in the marketing campaigns as a worthwhile piece of information. Beware of margarine and fake butters, they are dangerous, cause weight gain and are much responsible for the rise in cardiovascular diseases.
