Essential Things About Tennis Shoes That You Should Know

Tennis is one of the most popular sports today

. You can see that it involves a lot of extreme action like running to and fro with abrupt stops and turns. That is why in playing tennis you must be equipped with the proper attire or equipment to be able to play the game at your maximum performance. And that includes wearing a good pair of tennis shoes. Here are a few things about them.

Material

When it comes to choosing a perfect pair of tennis shoes, we must consider the type of materials they are made of. The 3 most common materials the shoes' uppers are made of are canvas, leather, and vinyl. Canvas is a strong woven fabric. It keeps the feet cool because the material is breathable, and you also won't have to worry about the intrusion of chemicals into your skin because it is made of cotton. On the other hand, vinyl is a synthetic material but it does guarantee good support and is highly resistant against moisture. The down side is that it doesn't allow much air to circulate in the shoes and it gets hot. Leather is probably the best material to be used because it gives more support as well as it is also highly resistant against external moisture. For shoe cushions, choose one with polyurethane for better shock absorption and stability. But, when we talk about its durability, this isn't usually an issue because the soles wear out before they do.

Construction

These shoes are actually engineered to work best in the sport. It is composed of 5 different parts, each with valuable purpose. The outsoles are made to support the feet when playing in surfaces like grass, clay, carpet, or cement. The arch support adds support to the foot wear to prevent frequent cramping. The ankle support provides the needed support for active quick movement. Lastly, the inlays help keep the feet cool and allow adequate airflow in and out of the shoes.

Compared to other types of shoes

Non-tennis shoes, like running or basketball shoes, don't actually provide good support when playing tennis and in the end, you'll only be hurting yourself with cramps or sprains. Tennis is an intense game with lots of running, sudden stops, and quick turns. Running shoes have thick soles and are not the best with sideway movements. Deck shoes, on the other hand, have flat soles which doesn't have enough cushioning for joint protection.

Washing and maintenance

Washing this kind of shoe is easy for as long as you follow its manufacturer's washing recommendations. Use only mild detergent and a used toothbrush for cleaning. After every washing, hang it until it dries and never wear them when they are still damp. It is best to constantly inspect them every game if they are still good or should be repaired or replaced.
