Everything Needs A Label
I worked at a home production canning place one evening
, we went as a group of neighbors to utilize bulk purchasing discounts to can our own staples for home storage. We canned wheat, spaghetti pasta, dry beans, dry milk, dry pudding, sugar, drink mix; all for use at home. The problem was we were all inexperienced production people and sometimes the label systems wasn't used correctly. When I got home I had some number ten cans that were not labeled and some were labeled wrong. I would go to use the dry powdered milk and it actually contained breakfast drink. I learned the importance of labeling correctly. This is unheard of in the food industry but give a bunch of novices some canning equipment and you never know what might transpire.
Home organizers suggest we do the same thing with our shelves, garages and kitchens. Label, label, label. It makes things easy to find, easy to use and easy to put back. If you have small children you can use a picture label system for their rooms, a picture of blocks on the block bucket, a picture of action figure on the action figure tub and so on making it possible for even very young children to clean up their rooms and put everything back where it goes. Can you imagine the refrigerator all neatly labeled with leftovers and other foods, there would be much less waste. My Mom would always tell us, "a place for everything and everything in it's place." That is a great concept. I wish I was more organized like she was. Our home was always neat and orderly and never chaos like mine tends to get to by the end of the week.
Everything is neatly labeled and boxed and shipped at the processing plants, it comes to our homes neatly labeled for convenient use. A perfectly organization world with rows of orderly materials all neatly stacked and labeled. Maybe someday my home will mirror that same organization and orderliness.
