Nicklaus Talks About The Masters

Jack Nicklaus will never be forgotten in golf history. He made records of winning 73 times on the PGA Tour with titleist 2010 ap2 irons, including 18 major championships. But during the Masters this year, there's one victory from the past that has been getting attention of others.

Wednesday marks the 25th anniversary of Nicklaus' records sixth Masters Title and his most unlikely, considering that it occurred at age 46. "I've seen that far too often in the last few weeks," Nicklaus said. "That's exactly what everybody has been talking about with me. I don't know why. Just another year away from a great year for me but it still was very nice."

Although Nicklaus doesn't like to rank his victories, he concedes that his 1986 Masters triumph is special because few people thought he could win at that age. "I think it's obvious that that one stands out simply because most of the other ones were during the bulk or the basic part of my career, and I expected to win," Nicklaus said. "I expected to prepare for it that way, and I really got the results that I was looking for. I always started thinking about it in January and preparing for it all through the tournaments I played.

"Well in '86,I started preparing two weeks before. I don't even know why I was playing golf then. I was doing my golf-course design work, but I really liked to play golf. I didn't want to quit playing golf by ping g15 driver, but I really didn't have any goals."

Nicklaus' victory was popular with Watson and many of his peers. "They all thought it was great for me," Nicklaus said. "A couple of them stayed around after their rounds. I think Tom did and a couple of the other guys stayed around. They wanted to shake my hand and say congratulations."

At least for Watson, Nicklaus' age at the time was insignificant.

"The bottom line is that after winning there five times, he knew the golf course and he knew how to play it to win," Watson said. "So it didn't make any difference whether he was 46 years old or 66 years old, he still understood how to win. And he still had the tools to do it."

Nicklaus said a player winning at age 46 today wouldn't be as surprising as it was 25 years ago, simply because of equipment. For example, he was still using a wooden driver in 1986. "It was a different game," he said. "Things didn't go as far. Winning Is More Important Than Swing.You didn't reduce a golf course to nothing like you can today."
