Excessive Liposuction Is A Major Complication Patients Can Avoid With Knowledge

Excessive liposuction can cause many undesirable after affects to a patient's body image and attractiveness

. It may also create a lot of pain and discomfort in many parts of the body that would have been okay prior to treatment. The danger of fat suction procedures is increased by a few different factors such as, excessive exposure to anesthesia, an excessive amount of surgery per month, or unsuccessful post-liposuction procedures.

It is important to remember that the goal of liposuction is not to see how much fat can surgically be removed from the body in a quick and seemingly easy amount of time. It should be looked at as a serious surgery that, if handled with respect and patience, can create desirable and lasting cosmetic results. If it is treated with little respect and used to excess it could become a dangerous surgical procedure that can create lasting side affects.

So what is too much liposuction? First of all it is not an emergency procedure so there is now logical need to remove too much fat from the body in one day. If there is a large amount of fat that the patient wants to be removed than the removals should be spread out over months. This allows for proper recovery time and time for the surgeon to monitor how the body is reacting to the procedures.

It is not possible for a surgeon to know exactly how much removal is going to be traumatic for every patient that comes through his/her office. However, there are specific guidelines that have remained fairly accurate through the years. The guideline is set at about 2-3 liters of fat in one day.

Some surgeons agree that 4 liters in a day is as much as they will permit in one day. Anymore than this is considered dangerous to the body. If more needs to be removed than the surgeon and the patient will have to plan additional surgeries at least a month apart from one another.

Even though these guidelines are important to create a good amount of consistency for safe procedures it is still difficult to define excessive liposuction. For example, a patient that weighs 110 pounds may find that any more than 1 liter of fat removed from the body is dangerous and excessive. While on the other hand a patient that weighs 220 pounds, may be able to tolerate a removal of 4 liters from the body without any potential threats or excessive danger.

These different opinions and guidelines are why it is extremely important that patients choose a surgeon that they can talk to. Surgeon should be open and willing to answer all concerns. He should also have a good reputation of solid and desirable outcomes.
