Experiencing The Majestic City Of San Francisco
The most iconic and recognizable place in the city of San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge
. Take a drive across the bridge during the day for a scenic view of the city, or visit the Presidio area at night for a majestic view of the red structure.
Adjacent to the bridge is Golden Gate Park. There you will find the Conservatory of Flowers, the home of all different types of plants and flowers.
You will also find the beautiful and serene Japanese Tea Garden and the de Young Museum of Art. If you would rather, bring a picnic and simply draw in the loveliness of the park and surroundings.
Another iconic place in San Francisco is Alcatraz Island. The island houses one of the United States' most infamous prisons, which was operation for over 30 years during the mid 20th century.
The island is now home to many different species of flowers, plants, birds, and sea life. Alcatraz no longer holds criminals, but it is in operation as a tourist destination.
Visitors are able to take a ferry to Alcatraz Island for guided daily tours of the prison grounds and cell blocks. The most daring of travelers prefer to take the tour at night, when the prison is its eeriest.
A great destination for families is Coit Tower, which looks out from Telegraph Hill across the entire city. During the day, tourists of the tower are able to go to the top and look out over San Francisco.
Though the hill is steep, it is recommended that you and your group walk up, if only to take in the gorgeous view for longer. The tower is also great to visit at night when it is lit; however, tours are only available until the late afternoon.
Telegraph Hill is mysteriously home to a large population of tropical parrots. It is unclear as to where the birds came from, but have a peek in the trees and witness the beauty of the winged visitors.
One of the best ways to get around the city of San Francisco is the BART, or the bus system. This form of transportation is affordable, you are able to meet and talk to a broad spectrum of residents and other tourists, and it is optimal if your goal is to see as much of the city as possible.
For a more fun and historical form of transportation, hop on one of San Francisco's famous cable cars that are still in operation. Routes for the cable cars run mostly through the Chinatown, Market Street, Fisherman's Wharf, and Nob Hill areas.
Chinatown in San Francisco is one destination you cannot miss. Not only are the buildings and architecture stunning and intriguing, but a walk up and down the streets of Chinatown will introduce you to a plethora of foods, clothing, goods, and people.
A trip to San Francisco is not complete without a drive down the infamous Lombard Street. The street is the most crooked in the world, and is a short, but exciting and scenic ride.
If shopping and dining is what you value most when you are vacationing, venture down to Pier 39 in Fisherman's Wharf. The wharf is stuffed full of delicious eateries and popular shops.
It is also a good idea to wander around Fisherman's Wharf for the street entertainment. Around every corner, you will find street artists and musicians.
If luxury shopping is what you desire, it would be best for you to put Market Street at the top of your list. The shopping there is some of the best in the world, and definitely in the United States.
Many famous designers have stores and spaces in San Francisco. Set aside at least half a day; you will not be able to get enough of the beautiful fashion and shopping here.
Alamo square is another iconic site of San Francisco. The Victorian homes there have been featured in films and television many times.
The homes themselves are extremely luxurious and beautiful. However, the view of the Golden Gate Bridge from the square is majestic.
Anyone looking for a vacation full of diverse people, cultures, and iconic historic sites will find San Francisco to be the perfect destination. In fact, you may find it difficult to fit all of the splendors of the city into one trip!
