Travelling to Cornwall allows visitors to (temporarily) escape reality

, as though they have literally slipped off the edge of the map into a world where small fishing towns spill down the rocky cliffs to face the wild sea. Holiday cottages in Cornwall are perfect for guests to comfortably enjoy their getaway while often being just steps away from the most spectacular beaches.

Beautiful Beaches

Cornwall bordered to the north and west by the Celtic Sea and is the westernmost part of the southwest peninsula of the island of Great Britain. The coastline is composed mainly of resistant rocks that give rise to impressive cliffs.

The north and south coasts, though, are certainly not one and the same in topography. The north coast on the Celtic sea, part of the Atlantic Ocean, is more exposed and is thus wilder in nature. However, there are also many picturesque stretches of fine golden sand that form the area's stunning beaches. The south coast, also known as the Cornish Riviera, is more sheltered. Beaches on this coast typically have coarser sand and shingle combined with rocky sections of wave-cut platforms. The south coast is home to the renowned fishing village of Polperro and the fishing port of Looe.

Visitors who desire a peaceful getaway should look into the option of renting holiday cottages in Cornwall, many of which are located within walking distance of the water on both coasts and can be rented throughout the year.

A few of the region's most spectacular beaches include:

Sennen Cove: Renowned for its surfing conditions, Sennen Cove has a friendly and laid back atmosphere making it a favourite destination for both holiday makers and die-hard surfers. Breathtaking blue water awaits visitors to Sennen Cove, and the delicious crabs, lobster and monkfish in the village restaurants will delight even the pickiest of palates.

Charlestown Harbour: Located within four miles of some of the best holiday cottages in Cornwall, Charlestown is situated on the south coast in the parish of St. Austell Bay. In the Cornish language, Charlestown translates to "Porth Meur", meaning "great cove". The village developed from what was, in the late 18th century, West Polmear and it remains relatively unchanged. Charlestown Harbour is characterised by the turquoise-blue colour of the sea, which is due, in part, to particles of mica quartz found in the water.

Duckpool Beach: Bordered by steep cliffs and the woodland of Coombe Valley, Duckpool is one the north's most beautiful and dramatic coves. When the tide is low, sand and rocks are revealed; an abundance of rock pools are exposed which are excellent for finding crabs.

Marazion Beach: Mostly sand with very few pebbles, Marazion beach is ideal for families. Clean water, lifeguard patrol, and a childrens playground located nearby make it a top choice for a lot of parents. Many holiday cottages in Cornwall are located within minutes of Marazion Beach, which makes it easy for mum and dad to spend quality time with the children.
