FRP Defined!
FRP is an abbreviation of Fiber-Reinforced Plastic which is mainly composed of two
important parts matrix (resin or plastic) and fiber that enhances that material. It can be better understood with the help of an example; steel is often supplied with cement concrete for increasing its overall performance. In the same way, fiber is added to the resin to make it more useful and applicable.
Practically, a wide array of fibers has been added with plastic to improve its performance. Some of the most common varieties are known as glass fiber, carbon fiber, Fang Lun fiber, metal fibers, etc. Among these different forms, glass fiber is known for its practicality and cost effectiveness.
Glass Fiber: What is it?
For general understanding, glass is very brittle and not suitable for everything. Due to its limited performance, it is not a preferable material for so many activities. However, by adding fiber in it, this new material can be made really useful. Also, it will not more be a one punch material. For converting the glass into glass fiber, a thorough process is followed. In this process, the glass is melted and converting into a very thin post-tensioned wire as thin as the human hair. In its thin form, the glass fiber becomes really useful and can be twisted into any desired shape. Also, its strength is measured better than steel. Not surprisingly, the use of glass fiber plastic can be highly recommended for its good quality performance, much more than the steel.
