FULFILLING GOD'S PROMISES
"The Lord visited Sarah as he has said,. And the Lord did to Sarah as had promised. And Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age at the time of which God had spoken to him". Gen. 21:1-2 (RSV)
Before we can properly understand what the topic is all about, we need to first understand the meaning of these words; "promise" and "Covenant". The two words are quite different in pronunciation and meaning. When we talk about promise, it is just a word uttered that can be invalid with some reason, either to deray from God. Read, is His mercy, clean gone forever? Doth his promise fail for evermore? Psalm 77:8 (KJV).
While covenant have to do with unchangeable word no matter good or bad reasons. Read "My covenant will I not break, nor alter, the thing, that "gone out of my lips". Psalm 89:34 (KJV). My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him. Psalm 89:28 (KJV). This brings us to the topic, "FULFILLING GOD'S PROMISES". The promise and covenant of God have to do with human beings that regularly focus their attention to God's requirements, that is, God's statutes. Before God's promises can be fulfilled in Abraham's life, he kept God's commandment according to Gen. 17:1 which says "..walk before me, and be thou perfect."
Large number of people disregarded the requirements of God, and an equal number of people are still skeptical of His promise not been fulfilled in their lives till they died. The truth is the promises of God stands forever. But we are the cause of un-manifested promises of God, simply because we are not obeying the word and voice of God. Read, "Because I have called, and ye refused, but ye have set at naught all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; when your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you". Proverb 1:24-27 (KJV)
A large number of people are not enjoying the promise of God, due to their deafness towards God's voice and statues. And it had caused them to experienced negative hands of God, such as distress, calamity, reproach, frustrations, failures, fears and so on. It had made them to remain stagnant, according to that passage we read. Causing them to strive with all one's might, going from one mountain to another, also from one church to another, and also from one prophet to another for prayers and vision. Bible declared that; "Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me; for that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord". No wonder, why many prayers are not been answered, just because they lack fear of God. Ignorance had made many people not to understand that obeying God's requirement comes before the fulfillment of God's promises. That is why, God left then to eat the fruit of their own way.
God is not unjust toward His promises to every mankind. Whatever you sow, shall you reap before God. (Prov. 1:33).
THERE ARE OBSTACLES TO GOD'S PROMISES
"Thou hast wrapped thyself with a cloud so that no prayers can pass through". Lamentation 3:44 (RSV) "Your iniquities have turned away these things and your sins have kept good from you". Jeremiah 5:25 (RSV)
There are ways to position ourselves before God, which will make promises of God for our life to come to fulfillment. All these things are what God expects you to abstain from, and you make them to be obstacles when you regard them. They are:
1. Sins - Psalm 66:18, Rom. 6:1
2. Disobedient - 1Samuel 15:22
3. Murmon - Exodus 16:2
4. Un-forgiveness - Matt. 18:21-23, Col. 3:12-13
5. Faithless - James 1:6-7
6. Pride - James 4:6
7. Lack of giving unto God and unto men - Exodus 25:1-3, 36:4-7, Mal. 3:8-11.
And so on. Take it and live by it.
