Facebook Causes and How to Support Them

I have been a Facebook user for some time now and I can say that I have taken advantage of its almost every feature

. I love Facebook and I can't help it. There are just too many things that you can do there and there's practically no dull moment when I am logged in. I love being able to connect with my old friends and share a bit of my life with them through pictures, videos or thoughts (that appears as my posts). Most of all, I love the fact that although Facebook is a social networking site, it has allowed people to support causes and help other people in their own special way.

I am not a cause-freak. I don't add up every cause that I am invited to. I only join those that I feel are worthy of my support and whose goals and objective I strongly agree with. I see a lot of users that have made fun of this feature by featuring causes that are totally non-sense (like "Say No To Celebrating Birthdays Because You Will Get Older-ugh, I hope it's gone now) and I am totally saddened. However, there have been a lot of organizations who have had their cause featured on Facebook and they were all able to gather enough funds to support their campaign.

I would like to share with you the top cause that I like and how I support it (I hope you do, too).

The Nature Conservancy. This campaign, as clearly stated on its name, is geared towards saving the environment-the plants, animals and the natural communities-for a better world. I like this cause because I've always been eco-friendly. I believe that supporting them is one step closer to conserving our environment. Here's how I supported them:

1. Obviously, I joined the group. This is actually the first step towards supporting a particular cause. You can't support anything that you're not a member of.

2. I invited my friends to join the group. This is the second step. Of course, after you've joined, you will be asked to invite as much people as you can. In my case, I did not just invite my friends through the "click to invite" feature on Facebook, I recruited them one by one whenever I was able to talk to them.

3. I donated my lunch money for the cause. I just felt that I had to do it because there was something inside me that joining the group and asking others to join the group was not enough.

4. I lived it. Joining the group and donating just don't seem to make enough impact. I actually lived the cause and I started by junking my old fax machine and replacing it with an online fax service. Online fax service does not eat too much paper as the conventional method and it saved me more
