The toughest period of time for someone to go through this is the first forty eight hours or so. During this time, the effects of withdrawal will be at their highest and you will feel the hardest cravings for nicotine here. After this peak, it will be much more smooth sailing for you, and after about half a year, the symptoms will be gone.
Nicotine withdrawal symptoms are hard for those who try to quit smoking. But, for those who do quit, their life will change. This is a change for the better.
