There are plenty of folks who are content to call dinner and a movie a fun night out

. For others this sounds a bit low key and they are in search of a more interesting and interactive night out, something to really get their blood pumping and their adrenaline flowing. For those people genuine ghost hunts may make for a truly memorable and fun night out.

There are many different types of ghost hunt tours available, but all have a few things in common. They all start with tales of the people whose spirits are being hunted, which will answer questions like, "How did they die?" and "Why is it believed that they haunt the building or areas where they have been encountered?". Most ghost hunts have tour guides that can explain the encounters that have led to this particular place being know for paranormal activity. These stories will leave the visitor's wanting to see what others claim to have seen. Now the ghost hunt can begin!

Many of these tours are held in places that have a long history of paranormal events. These can include famous buildings, old churches and cemeteries and sometimes whole towns. Sometimes the ghost hunting events take place on sites that are less well known but that does not mean that the spirits involved are less frightening.

Some ghost hunts events offer more to their customers. Many make electromagnetic field (EMF) meters available for the participants to use during the ghost hunt. These EMF meters are able to read even tiny changes in the electronic fields that surround every object. Most experts believe that these fluctuations in EMFs are evidence of paranormal events. Some ghost hunting events even claim that the participants may feel the chill of a ghostly presence or catch a spirit on film.

Some of these ghost hunt events offer too much fun for just one night. The visitor may have the option of spending the night at a haunted bed and breakfast if they dare. There are even some weekend long ghost hunting events. These are often package deals that include a place to stay, meals and, of course, two or more days of paranormal events.

Before paying any hard earned money to take part in any of these ghost hunts it is a good idea to take some time to research the specific tour in question. A genuine ghost hunting event can make for an exciting and memorable evening but just because a guide claims to be able to introduce his customers to the world of spirits does not make it true. Read reviews and find one that has a history of showing its guests a hauntingly good time.
