Faq About Tv Mounts And Tv Stands

Do you have a question about TV mounts or TV stands

? What's the difference between a tilting wall mount and an articulating wall mount? Are there special ceiling strength requirements (like having beams) in order to be able to safely install a ceiling TV mount? Check out this helpful collection of frequently asked questions about selecting a mount or stand for your TV.

Question: I went to buy a TV mount for a small TV I want to mount in the corner of my kitchen (so I can watch sports and cooking shows while cooking), but I didn't realize there would be so many to choose from! What's the difference between a tilting wall mount and an articulating wall mount?

Answer: A tilting wall mount can be moved up and down or side to side (depending on the model). But it can't be moved both up and down and side to side. An articulating wall mount will move in both directions. If you're installing your TV in a kitchen, and you'll be standing at the same counter or sitting at a table, you may like the TV to be able to be tilted but you may not need a fully articulating TV mount, depending on the size of your kitchen.

Question: I want to install a ceiling mount for our TV in the tiny living/kitchen area of our studio apartment. Are there special ceiling strength requirements (like having beams) in order to be able to safely install a ceiling TV mount?

Answer: No, you have studs in your ceiling already that the TV mount can attach to. Any ceiling built in the last 50 years will have studs at regular intervals. If your home is older than 50 years, you will still have studs but they may be more irregularly spaced (if you're lucky, and the home is really well built, they will be closer together than normal).

Question: I need a streamlined, low profile TV stand that will be sturdy enough to keep the dog from damaging or knocking over the flat screen TV. Any suggestions?

Answer: You will save floor space and keep Fido away from your TV with a wall mount for your flat screen TV. They aren't very difficult to install; most people can install a wall mount for an average sized TV in 2-4 hours. Your placement of the TV will be slightly affected by where you can find a stud (maybe 6 inches to the left or something, nothing major), but you will have more safety and more space if you go with a wall mount.
