Fashion For Keeping Ones Identity

Originally the purpose of dressing was to cover the body and the ancient human beings

used various leaves and skins of trees and animals for that purpose. Even in those primitive dresses there were a lot of fashion and if you watch closely many inscriptions and line pictures of those days, you can understand the fact clearly. People always wanted to be look different from others and very much particular about keeping the identity of theirs. This was the reason why different tribes of those ancient times used different types of dresses. The trend continued through the generations and in the Middle Age period it was clearly exhibited by the existence of family tartan. Tartan is a type of pattern originally created in wool. It consists of criss-crossing bands of different colors or different shades of the same color. Though it has been considered a Scottish tradition, it did exist in other parts of the world too in different names with a little change in the pattern. On those days, each elite family owned a particular tartan design and there were facilities to get their family tartan registered so that nobody else will use the same design.

The tendency to keep their identity in dressing was mostly shown by the elite class of people in the medieval and modern days. As in the case of tartan, there were many dedicated designs in kilt accessories also for each elite family. Kilt accessories such as kilt belts are made with special types of buckle with family emblem embossed on it were used on those days to identify a family member. Rich and the elites could afford to keep their own designs in dresses and in its accessories, but the common man was unable to do so. Still he could not resist his urge to look different from others. Hence he opted for different designs of the dress available in the market. Tweed jacket is one such out fit which looks different with its knitting pattern. Though there are many Tweed jackets which are knitted in the same pattern, common men used to satisfy with difference in the color combinations and also in the minor differences in the knitting pattern.

As the time passed, the modern day business houses have taken the culture of family tartan in the form of corporate uniforms. Again the intention was to keep the identity of their employees. The trend is not going to stop here also. It will continue and we can see more developments in the near future.
