Fathers Gift Ideas - Father's Day 2010
Father's Day is coming up on June 20th this year. Do you have any gifts planned for your father? Are you worried that you might get the wrong gift? Rather than scramble trying to get the perfect gift, try to think about what he would need. You don't have to come up with something extravagant, just make sure it's something he's going to use for a long time.

I remember one Father's Day where I saved up all my money to buy my dad a gift. I tried to think of what to get but couldn't really figure out what he wanted. I knew that he liked to work in his garage and liked to spend time on his woodworking projects but it seemed like he had everything he needed - especially since he's a big woodworking enthusiast.
Whenever our family needed new furniture, he insisted on making it himself rather than going to the furniture store. I did remember a time when his old radio had died out and wouldn't play anymore. He loved to listen to his radio while working in the garage. That's when I knew exactly what he needed.
On that Father's Day, I decided to go over the top and buy him a state of the art radio with AM/FM, mp3 playback, and CD support. It was time he moved on to a modern music player. I was sure that he was going to love the gift and couldn't wait to surprise him with it.
He was indeed surprised when he opened it. He had a big smile on his face and really appreciated the fact that I paid attention to his broken radio. He set it up on his woodworking table and we went back into the house to celebrate with dinner.
Every weekend, I passed through the garage but noticed that he wasn't getting into the habit of listening to his music while working on his projects. It seemed weird to me so I went in the garage one day to ask him why he wasn't listening to the music player I bought him.
Funny enough, he asked me "So, how do you work this thing?" We both had a long laugh realizing that my dad was an old fashioned guy and was clueless about technology. I spent 2 hours trying to explain how to use the music player and it took him another week to figure it out.
Those simple memories are what I cherish about my dad and it's a reminder how important it is to look after our fathers as much as they look after us. All you need is to pay attention to find the perfect gift for this Father's Day.
