When working on your case, it is not just a matter of having the right' message

. It's matching your message with the "right" person that needs to hear it; finding that decision-maker in your case, whether it be the judge, the family law evaluator, psychologist, or parenting plan evaluator.

The first thing is to find out who is the decision maker in the case. And, at first, you may think that this is the judge, when, in reality the judge usually follows the recommendations of someone, whether it is an evaluator, a Guardian Ad Litem, or even legal counsel recommendations. Contrary to popular belief, judges don't like to make decisions. They would mostly rather rubber stamp someone else's findings - especially if they have credentials. They make decisions mostly based on the reports of the people who work with you on a more intimate basis. If there is any sort of evaluation taking place, from a parenting eval' to property appraisal, you can be sure that the judge is going to weigh heavily on the results. Make certain you realize this and try to influence these people as much as possible. The best way to do this is to submit information to them in writing and attach references and sworn declarations supporting your position. You want to be seen as respectful and dedicated. Consistency is always the most important quality to maintain, it's how people gage your sincerity. A passionate speech followed by a period of inaction can be very damaging. Always be sure to show that you are reliable and honest to all the people involved in deciding your case.
