The coffee table has long been a quintessential furniture piece in the living room

Such low cost coffee tables are ideal for families with small children, owing to low weight and ease of maintenance.

Modern coffee tables are made of materials like glass and acrylic, in conjunction with chrome to give the area a spacious and airy look. Coffee tables with metal legs are used to tone down the decor of rooms which are otherwise wood heavy and they are also suited to living spaces with an outdoor feel. Living spaces with full height windows facing the beach or backyard spaces that open into the kitchen garden are examples of such areas. Metal legged coffee tables tend to overwhelm smaller spaces and are best avoided in such spaces

Modern coffee tables are more than mere table tops with legs. Shapes range from regular ones like rectangular, circular and oval to futuristic ones like concave and sigma shaped table tops. Some coffee tables come equipped with small drawers for a little storage. Some others have a sheet of glass or wood below the main glass top to display vintage coffee table books. Some coffee tables also double up as magazine racks while others have pull-out trays to increase the size of the table on occasion. In larger living spaces, more than one of such tables may be required to effectively fit the bill. Make sure the number, material, shape, size and style of the coffee table is in consonance with your living space and the other elements in there.
