Fibroids And Bodyweight -Can Being Overweight Cause Fibroids
?
Most of us know that what we eat and the lifestyle we lead can impact dramatically on our health and wellbeing. We all know that if we eat a healthy diet and do some moderate exercise a few times a week, we are more likely to be healthy and a better weight than someone who feasts on junkfood and sits in front of the TV all day!
However, if can be easy to overlook the fact that there is a connection between having fibroids and bodyweight and that being overweight by just a few pounds can increase the likelihood of fibroids developing and furthering the growth of those which are already present.
One measurement of bodyweight which many of us are now familiar with is BMI, or "Body Mass Index". This is a way of determining whether or not a person is a healthy weight based on height as well as weight on the scales. Although not always accurate (discrepancies have been seen in athletes and muscular individuals) in general, it is a good indication of the range you should fall within. The accepted healthy range for most women is between 18 and 25. It is interesting to learn that once you hit the index at "30", at which point you may not look particularly overweight, there is a 25% increase in your risk of developing fibroids.
Of course, it is accepted that bodyweight alone is not the root cause of fibroids but it is generally accepted that, along with other factors such as your diet, general lifestyle and hereditary factors, bodyfat levels are influential. Fibroids grow due to a range of factors and the key is to reduce the impact of each of these in order to stop further fibroid growth and to bring about shrinkage.
Weight management and eating a healthy diet go naturally hand-in-hand and therefore if you are concerned about your bodyweight and fibroids, you should consider going on a fibroid elimination diet which also incorporates healthy weight loss. Often, by putting the focus on the foods you should eat to shrink your fibroids, then the weight loss is almost a "side" issue and this has to be a good thing as we all know how difficult traditional "diets" can be. A diet for shrinking fibroids focuses on detoxification, body cleansing and hormonal balance and generally advocates eating reasonable portions of healthy foods, such as beans, seeds, nuts, leafy green vegetables and smaller portions of white lean meats and fish.
If you are very overweight and concerned about the connection between fibroids and bodyweight then don't despair. Some recent research has indicated that losing just a few points on the BMI scale will have a positive impact on your condition and that this will gain momentum as your weightloss increases.
