Fibromyalgia~ One Woman's Personal Story
Fibromyalgia: a Personal Story
Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) affects 3 to 6 million individuals, 90% of which are women between the ages of 40 and 60 years. Is is the third most prevalent rheumatologic disorder after osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. FMS is not a new syndrome. In fact it was first described in 1816 and has been referred to as myalgia, fibrositis, and soft tissue rheumatism. In 1987 the American College of Rheumatology recognized FMS as a true illness and a major cause of disability and in 1990 the criteria for diagnosing it was outlined.
Although the cause is considered to be unknown, many patients report some form of traumatic event, either physical or emotional, prior to the initial onset of symptoms. Other proposed causes include lack of physical fitness, sleep deprivation, hormonal imbalances, aluminum toxicity, nutritional deficiencies, impaired digestive function and interference to the nervous system.
Kathy L., a recent patient of Dr. Valerie Grevers at Roberds Chiropractic, suffered from FMS for over 5 years. " I am not sure exactly what caused it, but I suspect it was a combination of events. I had a great deal of stress in my life. I had been physically abused and been involved in a car accident. My pain was very severe. "
"I tried all the traditional treatments. I saw an orthopedist, a neurologist, physical therapists and a chiropractor. The medical doctors prescribed pain medication. I was told there was no cure, but I would not feel any pain. They almost killed me with the amount of pain medication I was on. I finally had to quit my job."
I found out about Dr. Grevers when my daughter saw an ad for a Fibromyalgia workshop in the newspaper. I went to that workshop and decided to try the Fibromyalgia program. In just a few days I felt good. In a week or two I was doing things I haven't been able to do in years. I now feel like I'm getting my life back. I smile. I do more with my grandchildren.
My pain has decreased in almost all areas and I am still under Dr. Grevers care and continuing to get better. No other doctor has cared as much about me and how I felt emotionally and physically. (visit

Last weekend I spent 3 days with my 4 year old granddaughter and I was not only able to keep up with her but I had patience with her. I have never been able to do this before. Now she wants to come and stay with me. My grandson was in a play and I was able to go to that. Normally I wouldn't have gone because I felt so bad.
My husband is even seeing a difference in how much I can do. He is very supportive of what I am doing and wants me to be the woman he married 12 years ago. Happy, beautiful and without pain."
Kathy has been a wonderful success story. We have many patients just like Kathy. People who have suffered long and needlessly. With a combination therapy approach of biocranial, nutrition, supervised detoxifying, patient education and stress reduction many patients are returning to their normal activities of daily living.
