Fight Cellulite: What Works, What Doesn't
Fight Cellulite: What Works, What Doesn't
Cellulite has been a torment to women for ages. The fatty deposits which rest around the thighs and bottom, that for some reason, refuse to budge in spite of rigorous dieting. The result: uneven, rippled or dimpled skin.
The miracle cures said to rid a person of cellulite deposits are largely mythical. These little cells of fat stubbornly remain or return, with the use of even the most expensive and top of the line creams or lotions. However, if you're looking for a short term solution, such as an up and coming beach weekend, cellulite creams do have some temporary power.
The main ingredient that activates cellulite removal creams is usually caffeine. While caffeine does absolutely nothing to the fat deposits beneath the skin, it does stimulate and expand the surrounding skin. It is, after all this sunken skin around the fat deposits that give the dimpled appearance. Caffeine can swell up the surrounding tissue, giving a temporary appearance of smoothness.
Unfortunately the effects of caffeine don't last too long, but it works well for a quick cosmetic fix.
Many spas offer cellulite wraps which can consist of mud, seaweed or a host of other natural products said to reduce cellulite. Depending on the treatment, heat or saunas may be utilized. While these types of spa treatments are relaxing, soothing and certainly can be enjoyable, they do not provide a long term answer to the cellulite problem. However, much like caffeine lotions, they can temporarily balance out the skin to provide a short reprieve.
Endermologie, the french solution to cellulite, consists of pressing the skin with rollers, combined with the use of suctioning, in an effort to even out the skin. Not a permanent solution, this method has mixed results and requires several treatments before any change in the skin is apparent.
Massaging and dry brushing seem to be the winners when it comes to breaking down the fatty lumps that cause rippled skin.
Using a loofah or natural bristle brush on the areas with cellulite, stimulates the lymphatic and helps these fatty spots break down. Daily massaging or brushing in circular motions encourages the reduction of the deposits that create the look of dimpled skin. Since it's the fat that causes the dimples, reducing and eliminating these deposits will provide an actual solution to the cellulite problem.
