When the time for an individual to get a passport arrives

The individual who will only be traveling in North America should consider acquiring a passport card only, as it is less expensive than the booklet. Those traveling on plane or anywhere other than North America need to acquire a passport booklet before doing that. Either way, the individual will need to complete a pass port application.

With the passport card, an individual will not be allowed to fly to his or her destination. This is just a rule the government has made. The booklet, however, will work for all international travel, which is why it is more expensive. The booklet will work as its own wallet, while the card will conveniently fit into any wallet, since it is similar to a driver's license.

The passport application that most people need to fill out is Form DS-11. This is used for individuals who are looking to get this documentation for the first time. These individuals need to make a visit to a specifically mandated government facility that falls under the Department of State's Bureau of Consular Affairs, Office of Passport Services and Customer Service.

A local post office will most likely be able to fulfill the needs of the application process. However, some post offices may not, so for a complete list of the acceptable government facilities, an individual should venture online and use his or her browser of choice to search. After the building has been found, an individual should collect all of the necessary documents into one place.

When it comes to Form DS-11, people need to show evidence of citizenship, which can be a birth certificate or a certificate of citizenship. A piece of primary identification or, if an applicant does not have primary identification, a combination of secondary identifications can also be used.. In addition, an individual will need to pay fees. After all this is completed, an individual only has to wait.

Form DS-82 is for the individuals who will be mailing their application in to the appropriate offices. Only individuals renewing their passport can do this. There are other very specific guidelines that one must follow in order to have to mail in the application, so it would be best for individuals to check online and see if they meet the requirements.

Neither DS form is difficult to fill out, but they will take a decent amount of time, so put on a some tea or coffee, get a pen, and find a comfortable seat. The forms will ask questions about age and birthday as well as minor family history. Those filling out Form DS-11 should not sign the form until they are standing in front of the agent who will process the order.
